How we work

How we build websites that bring in calls

How we plan, build and hand over a website, with a few example designs.

At a plywood workbench in a remodeling shop, an owner in tortoiseshell glasses points to a line on a printed page while her operations lead laughs beside her.

The first five seconds

Three ways a first screen can lead

Before we design anything, we decide what the first screen has to do. Here are three directions.

  • CraftThe first screen shows off finished work. Good for businesses people pick on looks and style.
  • DispatchThe first screen is all about the phone call and what happens next. Good for urgent jobs.
  • AuthorityThe first screen explains how the inspection works and what you’ll decide after. Good for big jobs where trust comes first.

01 · Craft

Stone & Field Outdoor Living: finished work first

People hire an outdoor-living builder on taste, so the first screen is the finished work.

  • The work is the pitch

The finished patio fills the screen.

  • A calm serif

A big serif headline and one italic line.

  • One action color

Lime marks only the two buttons.

02 · Dispatch

Corliss & Vane Plumbing: the call first

Someone with water under the sink wants three answers: can you come, when, and what will it cost. On a phone the first screen gives the number, the hours and the three steps after the call, and the photograph shows a plumber explaining the problem before any work starts.

  1. 01

    The number first

A call button in the header and under the headline.

  2. 02

    The hours under it

    Right below the buttons.

  3. 03

    What happens next

Arrival window, cause found, written price.

03 · Authority

Hollis & Rowe Roofing: the inspection first

A new roof is a big decision made on trust, so the site leads with how the inspection and estimate work.
